Term 3 Week 1

Dear Parents and Students

Welcome back to school, Room 19 students! I trust that you have had an exciting holiday and that you managed to catch up on all of the things you had wanted to. We have quite a busy and exciting term ahead of us. I look forward to seeing you progress well and take on all the challenging tasks with renewed energy.

Thanks for all of the super effort that you put into last term. I was happy to see the excellent progress made in the Literacy Circle presentations, the ALJ research and dioramas as well as the completion of all the portfolio tasks. My Maths group did exceptionally well too. I could see that you had a good understanding of measurement and that you learnt to solve most units of measurement with a fair amount of ease. Well done, to those who participated in the JRock production, Somerville Music Festival, assembly items and the various sport codes. Good job done by the rugby players too(including our 3 girls). We nearly took the Dodgeball trophy, didn't we? Amy did us proud by winning the Korean speakers competition and representing New Zealand in San Fransisco, USA. Matt's inline hockey team claimed victory in Hamilton too. All in all, it was a busy but rewarding term for most.

The term ahead looks just as exciting. We can look forward to a number of new programmes and all the upcoming events. We've welcomed Ji Yeon and Sun Woo who have joined us as international students from Korea. Their very friendly and helpful hosts are Amelia and Sally. We hope to learn about all aspects of Korean life, in our communications with the girls and we trust that they will enjoy their stay here with us, over the next 3 weeks. We hope that their stay will be a memorable one and that they will look back fondly on the time that they spent with us, just like we will too.

A brief outline of Term 3 includes the following:

Mathematics - Measurement(Time) and Algebra

Literacy - Speeches,Illustrated Short Stories(Published online),Dialogues, Reviews.

STARS Reading Programme, Buddy Reading during SSR.

ALJ - Rich Task (focus on Sustainability)

PE- Athletics(discus, shot put, long and high jump),Volleyball and Gymnastics.

We are preparing for an 'earlier-than-is-usual' start to our Athletics Day, at the start of Term 4.
